ABSTRACT: This study examines the role of professional development for vocational educators, emphasizing its importance in enhancing teaching quality and student outcomes. The objectives were to (1) identify the professional development needs of vocational educators, (2) evaluate the impact of professional development programs on teaching effectiveness, and (3) propose strategies to improve professional development for vocational educators. A survey design was employed to collect data from vocational educators, administrators, and policymakers, providing comprehensive insights into current practices and needs. The sample size comprised 150 participants, selected through a purposive sampling technique to ensure relevant experience and perspectives. The case study focused on Lagos State, Nigeria, a region with a significant number of vocational training institutions. Findings revealed that professional development programs significantly improved teaching effectiveness and student engagement. However, challenges such as limited access to professional development opportunities and inadequate funding were noted. Recommendations included increasing investment in professional development, providing continuous training opportunities, and establishing partnerships with industry to ensure that vocational educators are equipped with the latest skills and knowledge.
